Plastic Bag in Ocean_edited_edited.jpg

WHAT'S THE POINT?

Is climate change really that bad?

Short answer is yes, climate change is very bad. Climate change has become the world's most dangerous crisis humanity has yet to face. With carbon emissions rising by the day, and plastic such a fundamental part of modern lifestyles, global warming is increasing at an alarming rate.

You may wondering what's so bad about it anyway? Why should I care? This is why:

Climate change does more than the obvious facts like destroying habitats of various plants and animals, causing rising sea levels, and warming the Earth. It causes stronger hurricanes from warmer waters and affects air quality around the world, leading to lung diseases. It also causes extreme weather patterns that include droughts, causing agriculture to take a hit from dry soil.  Finally, with problems like wildfires, not only do we lose lives, but the economy takes a hit from helping with the aftermath. These are only some of the ways, but the important part to take, is that one plastic bag can lead to the loss of millions of lives. Every plastic bag you use contributes to climate change. Plastic originates from fossil fuels that release greenhouse gases, so even though plastic is cheap to buy, the air is rich in pollution from it. But everywhere you look, there is plastic. It's an awful thing that has become such a massive part of our lives.  The other side is that the plastic bag will probably end up in the ocean, where marine creatures can get trapped, and the fossil fuels released in making the bag will have warmed the Earth and destroyed habitats.

Something that can be hard to grasp is realizing while you are only one of billions, you take up space and you matter. Everyone on this Earth has a role to play in being a global citizen. Together we all have power, and that is what we hear most. But individual power is important. It's hard to see, but what you do makes a difference. Most of humanity is just normal people like you, or even less fortunate than you. People who don't make change because they think they have no say in the world. Every human has say. The choices you make every day, even small ones, have a butterfly effect. The great thing about making good, small changes is that it doesn't affect your life, but it saves others. Some forget plants and animals are at stake too, but they are the most worthy of saving. This crisis is no one's fault except ours and if we don't fix it, innocent species will cease to exist. They are in as much danger as we are and they can do nothing about it. No one can fairly argue that we are not in the wrong for the lost lives of all other organisms.

This issue is hard, confusing, and complicated, but the easiest thing to decipher is that humanity needs to change. We all share Earth. Every time a human litters by dropping a wrapper, it's like another fish dies while pollution rises. As the species in power, we have control over so many things, we just can't see it. Stop waiting for someone else to make change and figure out how you can make change.  You can't wait for big companies to change and reduce their pollution, because they probably won't.  So you need to act now.

Look around, right now, wherever you are. Do you see plastic? Waste? Something you could do that would be better for the environment? The answer is probably yes. Everyone is so focused in their every day lives, thinking that their choices don't matter, to see the real crisis. The way to fix this is not a few people making trying to make big change or places solving problems half-heartedly, but everyone changing their lives for the better. Like we say, small steps from everyone could lead to the great change we need for Earth. Our website will not fix every problem, but if you took the time to read all of this. You might be ready for a change. This is the place to learn how.
